ON THE ISSUES

Improving life in Petaluma.

Alot has happened in three years. Brian has been supporting and advocating for initiatives that move Petaluma forward.

Championing Safe Streets and All-ages Mobility

Authored the Safe Streets Policy Platform, launched the Safe Streets Nomination Program, SLOW the fast DOWN campaign, and safe routes to school task force, and brought about dozens of safety improvements citywide.

Delivering East Side SMART Station

Replaced bad housing project with 100% affordable housing project, secured over $50 million for station construction and affordable housing, and broke ground on second SMART station (opening 2024).

Advancing Road Repairs and Crosstown Connectors

Initiated design and permitting the Caulfield Bridge Southern Crossing (open 2028), resurfaced/paved 30 miles of roads, and repaved, closed sidewalk gaps and added safe crossings on North McDowell Boulevard (and more!).

Leading on Climate and Clean Energy

Prohibited new gas stations, approved the city’s first solar canopy and floating solar projects, accelerated electrification of the city’s vehicle fleet, prohibited gas lines in newly constructed buildings, planted 1,000+ trees (on our way to 10,000!).

Addressing Homelessness with Compassion

Secured $17 million of grant funding for 85 units of transitional housing (Studios at Montero and Peaple’s Village), cleaned up two large homeless encampments (Cedar Grove and Steamer Landing), and doubled down on social services and work-trade programs.

Advancing Affordable and Workforce Housing

Adopted an award-winning housing element, secured $38 million of grant funding, advanced 350 units of deed-restricted affordable housing, and removed defunct policies that hinder our goals of being an inclusive, age- and family-friendly city.

Protecting Open Space and Habitat

Added 43 acres of land to Helen Putnam Park, opened Lafferty Ranch to the public, removed 100+ acre flood plain development from the city priority list and budget, and supported acquisition efforts to ensure the property is protected in perpetuity.

Standing Up for Social Equity

Protected seniors and renters from predatory landlords, launched a policing and race relations committee, authorized independent police auditor and citizen oversight, adopted resolution condeming hate speech, boldly condemned acts of hateful vandalism and supported impacted community members.

Championing an Inclusive Vision for Our Fairgrounds

Brought property back under local control, gave all tenants 3-5 year lease extension, kicked off master planning process, championed piloting new uses like a BMX track in the infield of the Speedway and pickleball in the expo hall.

Securing Funding for Petaluma’s Priorities

In collaboration with partners, secured over $125 million in regional, state, and federal grant funding for water infrastructure, homelessness, affordable housing, park improvements, emergency services, tree planting, and transportation.

Championing Youth Activities

Championed the new skatepark, replaced unsafe playgrounds, approved the next phase of the East Side Community Sports complex, redesigned Kenilworth Park, championed bringing a BMX track to Petaluma, doubled budget for parks maintenance.

Investing in Our Historic Downtown

Completed engineering study for Trestle rehabilitation, approved funding for public restrooms, added new chess tables, worked to remove defunct policies that have discouraged investment and hurt our downtown.

Investing in Community Safety and Emergency Response

Launched the SAFE team, added staff to police and fire departments, doubled DUI arrests since 2019, and funded long-overdue facility upgrades and our new fire station headquarters.
